SAC finishes 5th at City Meet

            The Greater Knoxville Area Interclub Swimming Association (GKAISA) held its annual City Meet at the new UT Allen Jones Natatorium this past weekend.  The three day event consisted of 36 teams and just over 2300 swimmers.  On Friday, the “11 year olds and up” had their preliminary swims and on Saturday the “10 and unders” had their preliminary swims to qualify for the top sixteen places in Sunday’s final races.  After Sunday’s swims, Sevier Aquatic Club rounded out the top five in the final team standings finishing out the summer season with a 36-5 record…noting that SAC also beat the City Meet champions (Village Green) in a dual meet during the summer season. Congratulations and thank you to the SAC swimmers and their families for a great summer season of swimming!
            Some highlights from the meet included Hayden Williams and Conner Rytz winning both of their individual events and being members of two winning relays for a total of 4 gold medals each!  In addition, even though he finished second, Zack Burnett smashed former SAC swimmer Thomas Gibson’s 50 breast meet record and his sister, Natalie Burnett, though finishing 3rd, broke the former 50 backstroke record for the 13-14 girls.  Congratulations to these swimmers on these accomplishments!

            This meet brings the summer swim season to a close.  The SAC swimmers will enjoy a few weeks off before starting up for the fall swim season after school starts. The registration for fall swimming will be held at the Sevierville Community Center pool on August 25th-26th.
